We knew Ben would get done around 1:00 pm in Annapolis. It is about a 9 hour trip if there are no stops. We had a good trip but very tired and the trip from Annapolis to Perkasie was a bit long and weary. Travel was on Wednesday.
2:15am - Leave Flint, drive through the night, frequent change of drivers, lots of tolls. Cupcake travels pretty well. Zorro is a huge ball of stress even with a benadryl in his system. Noonish - Arrive in Annapolis. Ben still in class so we went across the bridge to a little park to let the dogs run around a bit. It was a good decision. 1:10pm - Ben comes to the car and we got right on the road. Kinda. Took about an hour to get out of the parking lot and out of the yard. A bit of a log jam. 2:30pm - Went and got MOD pizza for lunch. Seems to be a favorite of Ben. Dogs were not happy to be left in the car. 3:15pm - Milkshakes from Chick-fil-a before getting on the road again. One stop for gas and to let the dogs run. Hit a decent amount of traffic. Made the trip a little longer but seemed worse at the time. 7:03pm - Arrive in Perkasie. Extremely thankful for a safe trip. Thank you Lord. Today was my daughters birthday. I would like to think it was a decent day even though I have a tough time making a big deal about birthdays. She seemed to really appreciate the gifts she received, she got to ride horses and we had dinner at her favorite restaurant.
I can't imagine my life without my daughter. She is a complete blessing. I love spending time with her and laughing with her. A definite gift from God. I just wish she wasn't growing up so quickly. Love that girl. “Early is on time, on time is late, late is unacceptable” - the Blacklist Almost had a snow day the yesterday. My wife agreed to take my daughter to school so that I could go in early and shovel and salt the walks. I love going to work early. Really early. I can get so much done with a clear mind and no interruptions. I enjoy my rides to school with my kid, but it was nice to go in early for a change of pace. Starting the day ahead was great. Best day of work in a long time. Thank you wife. Cupcake came in early to help too. She needed to go to the groomer. On a side note, after the groomer, cupcake stayed in my office until the end of the day. She also come to Calculus class. While in Calculus, there was a panic from the girls restroom because of a mouse. Send in the Cupcake. The mouse is now dead. Good work Cupcake. First game of the season. GCS has 2 teams. 13 girls on the 7th grade team and 11 girls on the 8th grade team. Last night was the first games and they were a delight. I truly enjoyed watching all of the girls play, including the girls from the visiting team. It was like I took a step back in time to when sports were fun.
Seeing the pure joy on their faces when they made a play. I felt like I was smiling the entire night. We weren't watching an amazing display of athleticism (which is a weird word). We were watching kids, having fun, playing sports. It is also a privilege to have a coach, Grant Paddock, who not only is doing a great job teaching the game, but is encouraging to the girls even when they mess up. He might be a little over qualified for the job, but we will take what we can get. I realize that as they improve that their excitement could be replaced with arrogance. That being coachable could be replaced with a "know it all" mentality. And fun could be replaced with pressure to perform. But for now, it sure is fun to watch kids have fun. And I hope sports will always be fun for them. My wife and I had the privilege of going to Annapolis this weekend to see our son. He had some extended liberty because of Veteran's weekend. It was great to see him and spend time with him. We are both very proud of him.
It was interesting to see others come up to him at a restaurant, shake his hand and thank him for his service. I think it was very humbling to him, which is a good thing. He is just getting started but I gotta think that these gestures are very encouraging to those who serve. |
