Had a really busy weekend and now I am taking the easy way out and reusing some material. I sent an email out the other day and someone who read it said that I should write a blog. Apparently the blog writing bar is set pretty low. So here it is. Soldier Fans,
I realize that most of you will get this email a little too late, but after overhearing a student conversation this morning, I thought it was important to address the situation. Perhaps the students are wrong or blowing things out of proportion, but perhaps they are not. To be clear, I was actually eavesdropping a bit. If you agree with every call the referees make, you may stop reading now. A few girls were talking between classes this morning about how they were embarrassed by how much some of our fans interacted (yelled) with the officials. I do not know for sure if they were talking about parents, students, or other fans that have little connection with the school. They were definitely talking about the GCS crowd and the phrase “wanna punch em in the face” may or may not have been used. If you are a fan that likes to instruct the officials, please stop I am not perfect in these areas but here are a few facts and opinions (you can decide which are which).
This may be too late for you to read before tonight’s game and I hurried through it. But I thought it was important. Come and enjoy the game tonight. Be as loud as you can be while supporting our team. Remember: coaches coach, players play, refs ref, and fans fan. Because He Lives, Chris Rainear PS. I am not trying to be a jerk or a judge. Just thought it was worth addressing. On Saturday, March 12, our church is having an Answers In Genesis Youth Gathering. There are some details on the Radical Rainear home page. In preparation for this event, I decided to show the Junior High Sunday school class a very old video by Frank Peretti called 'The Chair'. It is actually very entertaining, informative and challenging. I will try to give an overview of the video. He first addresses the problem that on of the issues we face is that no one wants absolutes. What is right for you may not be right for me. He tells the story of when Paul, in Acts 17, comes to Mars hill and the people there are talking philosophy. They are trying to answer the big questions in life - where did I come from? why am I here? etc. Paul then begins to tell them about our God, the one true God, in verse 24. He lays out 5 foundation stones that are still true today.
That is about how far we got in the video so far. We will probably watch more after the creation weekend. I think it is a great parallel to today. We may not discuss our philosophy of life on Mars hill, but like Mars hill, our world is desperate to not have absolutes. Because if there is a God who is an authority, then we would have to open to the fact that one day we will have to answer to him. Today we are not taught by great worldly philosophers. It is much worse than that, we are bombarded with anti-Bible messages in our music, movies, TV, Facebook, Twitter, Oprah, and the View. Where everyone's view should be considered and everyone can be right. Here is the fact. God is God and His word tells us what is right. And just like it was true in Acts 17, it is still true today. God made all, He is Lord of all, we don't define Him, He has a purpose for my life and desires fellowship with me. We have an amazing God. I will try to put a few videos in below. 'The Chair' is a bit long, so grab some popcorn.
