Everything about this is ridiculous. Coach getting upset about a call. Upset to the point of throwing a tantrum like a toddler. And the announcer (Vitale) sounds like he is upset at the ref for throwing him out of the game.
Admittedly, I did not watch the game and maybe there is more to the story. Maybe it was the most important game ever. Maybe he had to win or he would lose his job. Maybe the ref killed the coach Boeheim's dog on the previous play or something. Maybe Boeheim apologized after the game. Maybe he was fired. I simply don't know and it should not matter. I plan on looking into it but I wanted the put some initial thoughts down. This should not be part of the game. It should be an embarrassment to anyone who likes basketball. It is stuff like this that makes me not want to watch sports. Coaches should let the refs do their job. It should not be the job of the coach to tell the ref he is wrong. This will never happen, but I would love it if coaches got a technical foul for yelling and got kicked out for leaving the bench. Things would clean up faster that way. I am glad I saw this video. I am not guilt free, but I hope this motivates me to be a better example to my players. Last night we had the GCS Winterfest Overnighter. It is not something that is done every year and it is the first one I have been to in a long time. Things did not go according to plan, but we had a great time. Pizza first - always a good start. Then off to ice skating - fun time, but apparently when you never exercise, 1.5 hours of skating can make you a little sore. To the left is our fearless leader who is skating so fast he is nothing more than a blur. Back to GCS for a few team games and snacks. Games went well and it seems the kids had fun with it. Mr. B made me coffee. :) Student council rented Genesis Health Club from 2-5am. When we got there, there was a mix up with the day and we could not get in. For the record, we were right and there is a contract to prove it. But it didn't matter, we were going back to the school with no plan of what to do next. The kids went into the gym and played some games like basketball and hookup tag. Most of the students made the most of the situation. I think next time we may need a back up plan. Hats off to Student Council for making the most of some disappointing circumstances. Specifically noticed all the hard work of Beanne Ruchalski (names have been changed to protect the innocent). Got home and was only able to sleep for about 2.5 hours. No idea why. Should sleep good tonight now. 1I waited patiently for the Lord; And He inclined to me and heard my cry.
2He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay, And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm. 3He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear And will trust in the Lord. 4How blessed is the man who has made the Lord his trust, And has not turned to the proud, nor to those who lapse into falsehood. 5Many, O Lord my God, are the wonders which You have done, And Your thoughts toward us; There is none to compare with You. If I would declare and speak of them, They would be too numerous to count. 6Sacrifice and meal offering You have not desired; My ears You have opened; Burnt offering and sin offering You have not required. 7Then I said, "Behold, I come; In the scroll of the book it is written of me. 8I delight to do Your will, O my God; Your Law is within my heart." 9I have proclaimed glad tidings of righteousness in the great congregation; Behold, I will not restrain my lips, O Lord, You know. 10I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart; I have spoken of Your faithfulness and Your salvation; I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth from the great congregation. 11You, O Lord, will not withhold Your compassion from me; Your lovingkindness and Your truth will continually preserve me. The students got to enjoy a 4 day weekend and the teachers got 3.
Friday: A day for the teachers to get together without students and I felt it was very productive. Mr. B has been a great administrator of our school and I am looking forward to the direction we are heading. I won't bore anyone with the details (as if you weren't bored already (let's face it, you are reading the blog of a math teacher (not known for his writing ability))), but it made me feel good about the future of GCS. I already believe that GCS is the best school around and I think that it is only a matter of time before it is the opinion of many more people. Saturday: Work around the house. Sunday: Church, rest, Lego Movie, etc. Monday: Pancakes, coffee, and school work. First student to comment on this post gets a cookie. So I played soccer tonight. Got a call that a team needed a sub so I said I would be there. The game started at 10 pm. I usually like to be in bed by 10.
I learned a few things. Soccer is not as fun when you are out of shape. It is even more difficult when you thought you would play sparingly but the rest of your team is also out of shape. I learned that I am getting older. I learned that smart can deal with fast, but has more difficulty with quick. I learned when someone tells a joke in a different language, it is hard to know whether or not to laugh. And I learned that once every 4 months is no way to keep your skills sharp. That said, we won, it was fun, and I did not get hurt. I was asked to play again on Tuesday night. So this is my first blog. I blog. I am a blogger. I feel like I have reached a new social status, I just don't know if that new status is something to be proud of. It seems that there are over 150 million blogs out there and now there is one more.
I figured a good starting point was figuring out what a blog is. Apparently short for "web log". There are photoblogs, video blogs (vlog), audio blogs (podcasts) and microblogs (twitter). What could I possibly offer to the blog world? I have decided to start a blog-arithm. Sure, you maybe have never heard of such a thing, but it's popularity should grow exponentially. Feel free to send me suggestions, but please don't expect too much. In the words of Spock - "May the force be with you" |
