We live in a world where if you don't agree with my solution to the problem, then you don't care about the problem. There was another horrible school shooting. This time in Florida. 17 dead last I had heard. I can not imagine being a parent going about a normal day and then finding out I will never see my child again. I do not know any of these parents, but I have been praying for them. What's the cause? Sometimes it is bullying. This time it was not. Is it a bad home? Watching violent movies? Playing certain video games? A society that no longer values human life? Mental illness? Drugs? Alcohol? Illegal immigrants? What's the solution? Gun control? Less guns? No guns? Greater Awareness? Awareness of what? More government? Less government? First thing that bothers me ... "If you don't think gun control is the solution, then you don't care about the families and don't even bother talking to me." I don't really want to go down the road of intolerance, but this does not seem like being open minded to other opinions. For the record, I do care about the hurting families. But I do not think gun control will solve the problems. This time the gun was obtained legally. Next time it might be obtained illegally. I do think there would be fewer mass killings if guns were never invented, but there is a good chance that I am wrong about that. Second thing that bothers me ... "Now is not the time to talk about gun control." Why not? If we need more gun control, why not talk about it now? The problem I have is I have absolutely no idea what they mean by gun control. Are we talking manufacturing, distribution, training, licensing, putting GPS locators on all guns, only people with a certain blood type can carry? I believe the second amendment is there because of a fear of an oppressive government. Which would imply that citizens need access to the same fire power as the government. I'm not sure the founding fathers were considering automatic weapons, bombs and nuclear warheads. But that said, it creates a problem when we through around the term "gun control" and think everyone knows exactly what we are talking about. Third thing that bothers me ... people would look at situations like this as opportunities to make money. Saw that there are problems with groups claiming to be organizations to help the victims. But they are actually just getting people to donate money as a hoax. What kind of people do that? i think the problem is simple. We are sinful, selfish, and depraved. As a society, we want everyone to be able to do what is right in our own eyes. We don’t want absolutes unless they are our absolutes. We value some human life, but not all human life. If we get rid of guns, we will find other ways to do evil. If we make schools safe, we will find the next easiest target. Government has no means by which to address the real problem. The problem would be solved if we simply love God and love others. Thats all I have to say about that. |
